SoberHomePath publishes guidance for people starting and running sober living homes. Recovery housing serves people at a vulnerable point in their lives, so our bar for accuracy and honesty is the point of the whole site. This page explains how we work.
Where our information comes from
We research from primary sources: the National Alliance for Recovery Residences (NARR) and its published standard, NARR's own state affiliate directory, state statutes and agency publications, HUD and Department of Justice fair housing guidance, court decisions, and SAMHSA recovery housing materials. Our 50-state affiliate directory was compiled directly from NARR's affiliate directory and links each affiliate's NARR profile page rather than third-party summaries. Where we summarize a law, such as Florida's referral statute or the Massachusetts sober homes law, we name it so you can read it yourself.
What we refuse to do
- We never invent state-specific facts. Where a fee, timeline, or local rule genuinely varies, we say so and point you to the authority that decides it, with the exact question to ask.
- We never promise outcomes: not certification, not occupancy, not income, and never recovery outcomes, which belong to residents and their clinicians.
- We do not publish fabricated reviews, testimonials, star ratings, or user counts. This is a new publication; when we have real customer feedback to show, it will be real and labeled.
- We do not accept payment for placement in our guides, and we have no referral relationships with treatment providers. Paying for patient referrals is illegal in several states and against everything this field's standards exist for.
- We avoid exploitative framing. Recovery housing is a service business with a mission, not a passive income scheme, and our content says so plainly.

Content is researched and edited by the SoberHomePath Editorial Team and bylined that way. We do not attach invented author names or credentials. We are an independent publisher: not a law firm, not a certification body, not a treatment provider, and not a government agency.
How content stays current
Every guide carries a published and updated date. Certification and licensing rules change session by session, so guides frame state specifics as verified patterns as of their update date and tell you to confirm current requirements with your state affiliate or agency before acting. When a reader or a source shows us something has changed, we update the guide and the date.
Corrections
If anything on this site is wrong or out of date, tell us and we will fix it. Write to team@soberhomepath.com with the page link and what you found. Corrections that change the substance of a guide are reflected in its updated date.
